Another book that I read this week was The Compassionate Mind. A thoroughly researched work on the topic of compassion and self-compassion and their importance in everyday life. Packed with nuggets of wisdom and psychological knowledge it is an impressive work and one that has shed light on some of the issues I have. While some argue that we are responsible for our feelings, Gilbert believes that we are not in control of our feelings and what goes on in our brain. Although I gave it four stars on Goodreads I think it is for people from developed countries trying to solve what have been called first-world problems. Moreover, I think compassion is regarded as a sign of weakness in my country as the majority of us are bullies and rejoice in returning the favours of our opponents. As interesting as the read was I highly doubt the fact that it would prove useful to a Romanian. Maybe one who is not in touch with the country's reality and the fact that it's every man for himself. Suitable for idealists and hippies if you ask me.
